Maricel Beltrán-Burgos, Research Associate 2, brings experience studying coastal geomorphology along the Louisiana coast, including how the interaction between sediment flow and vegetation can help improve restoration projects.

Beltrán-Burgos graduated with a bachelor’s in geology from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez and with a master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Tulane University. Prior to joining the Water Institute, Beltrán-Burgos was a teaching and research assistant at Tulane University and a Natural History Research Experiences intern with the Smithsonian Institution.
