Emily Miller, Applied Geosciences Intern, supports The Water Institute’s applied geoscience team with geophysical and geological data analysis to identify beach compatible sediments off the Atlantic Coast of Florida. Emily is expected to graduate with Bachelor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences, with a concentration in Coastal Science, from the University of New Orleans in December 2024.
Emily’s background is distinguished by her extensive experience in coastal research, laboratory work, science communication, teaching, and administrative roles. During Emily’s lab assistant and student technician roles her focus pertained to biological systems, geology, and ecology. At the UNO Coastal Education Research Facility, she has been instrumental in leading educational initiatives and facilitating hands-on learning experiences for K-12 students about coastal environments. Additionally, her work as a laboratory assistant and student technician has provided her with valuable applied geophysical experience, particularly concerning issues affecting the Gulf of Mexico and its coastal communities.
