Resilient East Biloxi

The Resilient East Biloxi initiative partners with local community leaders to address chronic flood risk and resilience issues within the redevelopment plans for southeast Biloxi, Mississippi. The Community Resilience Center at the Water Institute is a key project partner of Resilient East Biloxi, and Director Renee Collini was a founding member.

The Challenge

Residents of East Biloxi have faced significant impacts from both natural and human-made climate disasters, which have continuously strained the area, compromising the community's social, natural, and economic well-being.

The Approach

To address these issues, Resilient East Biloxi hosts community leader training sessions and resident engagement events with the following objectives:

  • Promote redevelopment that reflects and has a sense of ownership by the community.
  • Provide space for community leaders to engage with and communicate resilience issues and solutions to residents.
  • Develop strategies to skillfully and effectively direct solutions to address unbridled socioeconomic disadvantages
  • Increase organizational capacity for the implementation and funding of community-led redevelopment projects.
