Numerical modeling of hydrodynamics and sediment transport in lower Mississippi at a proposed delta building diversion

Jan 21, 2013

The Mississippi river delta of south Louisiana is a highly engineered system with extensive levees, flood control and diversion structures that is also experiencing a high rate of coastal wetland loss. One of the potential solutions to that land loss is the diverting a portion of the Mississippi River’s sediment. This study uses extensive field data input into a numerical model to look at the potential of a diversion on the west side of the river.
