The Water Institute Announces Strategic Partnership with ICEYE to Scale FloodID

The New Partnership Advances the Future of Predictive Flood Intelligence to Protect Lives and Property

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Aug. 27, 2026) — The Water Institute announced today a new partnership with ICEYE, one of the world’s leading Earth observation companies, to advance and scale FloodID®, a flood intelligence and decision-support technology developed by the Institute. FloodID began as a tool to help Louisiana make better decisions before, during, and after flood events. This partnership creates a path to bring that same capability to communities and agencies well beyond the Gulf Coast.  

When water is rising, decision makers need timely, localized, and reliable information to understand what is happening, what may happen next, and where people, infrastructure, and property may be at risk. FloodID is an operational flood intelligence solution that provides actionable flood and decision information for emergency managers, infrastructure operators, industry users and communities​​​​.​     

Launched in Louisiana, FloodID is now utilized in emergency operation centers in multiple hurricane-prone states and municipalities. Additionally, with the support of Amazon and access to Amazon Web Service technology, a pilot FloodID product has been made freely available to users across federal, state, and local government organizations in the United States during the 2026 hurricane season. Currently, over 200 users are enrolled in the pilot program. 

With ICEYE’s global reach and operational expertise across more than 30 countries, the new partnership will accelerate the deployment of FloodID across the United States and beyond.

By partnering with ICEYE, we are giving FloodID the pathway to reach more decision makers, in more places, at the moments when better information can make all the difference.” 

FloodID’s operational intelligence, combined with ICEYE’s persistent Earth observation capabilities, will advance the sophistication of information decision makers use to anticipate flooding and other natural hazards. ICEYE’s satellite technology supports Earth monitoring day or night and in all weather, which is especially relevant during flood and severe weather events.

As part of the partnership, core members of the team that built, deployed, and operated FloodID have joined ICEYE while ensuring a seamless transition for partners currently using the tool. The transition also creates opportunities for continued collaboration between The Water Institute and ICEYE beyond flooding and into broader coastal resilience ​​​​issues.

The partnership to scale the impact of FloodID supports The Water Institute's mission to reduce the vulnerability of people, ecosystems and economies. It also aligns with the work of The Water Innovation Studio of Louisiana at The Water Institute, which was created in partnership with Louisiana Innovation (LA.IO), a division of Louisiana Economic Development, to help move water innovation from research to deployment, from technical capability to market opportunity, and from Louisiana-based expertise to broader impact. FloodID provides an early and tangible example of that pathway.
