A US NGO has published research showing that Louisiana’s wetlands could be a key carbon sink, presenting an opportunity for blue carbon projects in the country.
The Study, published in Oct. 2024 by The Water Institute - an applied science NGO founded in 2011 - looks at the challenges of accurately measuring and monetizing below ground carbon storage in Louisiana's marshes.
The Research seeks to improve the financial viability of blue carbon projects by expanding existing methodologies, reducing monitoring costs, and leveraging existing data of the state's wetlands.
