U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to host “Nature as a National Priority” event Aug. 30

Aug 29, 2022

BATON ROUGE, La. (Aug. 29, 2022) – The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) will hold a LinkedIn live presentation at 10 a.m. CDT Aug. 30 for a discussion around “Nature as a National Priority.”

The program brings together national experts leading the effort to incorporate natural and nature-based engineering solutions to enhance the nation’s infrastructure and make coastlines more resilient.

Guiding the discussion will be Todd Bridges, National Lead of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Engineering With Nature® initiative. Bridges and host Shelley Tingle will be joined by Deborah Loomis, Senior Advisor for Climate Change for the Secretary of the Navy and Justin Ehrenwerth, President and CEO of The Water Institute of the Gulf.

In addition to the growing focus on using natural infrastructure and nature-based solutions to tackle climate change and enhance resiliency, these leaders will also discuss how these engineering principles have been incorporated in recent federal guidelines, including the recent Earth Day Executive Order issued by President Joe Biden.

The Water Institute is currently working with ERDC and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering With Nature® Initiative on policy research around nature-based infrastructure approaches. Read more about that work here. More information and how to RSVP for Tuesday's live presentation here.
