Resilient Jacksonville Strategy released

The Water Institute and partners celebrate completion of Jacksonville's science-based roadmap for resilience

BATON ROUGE, La. (Oct. 13, 2023) – Today, the City of Jacksonville took another step in the pursuit of a more resilient future with the release of the Resilient Jacksonville Strategy during the 2023 Environmental Symposium.

The Water Institute, along with partners SCAPE, Halff, Fernleaf and Acuity Design Group, Inc., worked with the City of Jacksonville leadership and community stakeholders to develop the data-driven and science-based resilience strategy for the city.

“Today marks a great milestone for the City of Jacksonville with the release of Resilient Jacksonville Strategy which builds upon, and incorporates, resilience efforts the city has pursued in the wake of hurricanes Matthew and Irma,” said Beaux Jones, The Water Institute’s acting president and CEO. “The Water Institute, and numerous partners, are proud to have been a part of developing this science-based roadmap to help improve the future for the city.”

The Water Institute employed methods that combined science and policy in order to break down complex decisions and help guide the city and stakeholders toward finding and prioritizing solutions that meet clearly defined objectives for the city’s future.

“This 18-month planning process was supported by a team of local and national experts in resilience planning, policy, design, science, and engineering with significant input from local experts, organizations, and residents,” said Alyssa Dausman, The Water Institute’s senior vice president & chief scientist. “Bringing all of these scientific and local knowledge experts together is the best way to ensure that a plan is not only solid scientifically, realistic for future implementation, and effective, but that it also incorporates local needs and values.”
