Capital Region not immune to threat from rising seas

While rising seas obviously create serious issues for coastal Louisiana, the Capital Region also should be wary, says Alyssa Dausman, senior vice president and chief scientist with The Water Institute for the Gulf in Baton Rouge. Louisiana as a whole is a coastal state, and Greater Baton Rouge is dealing with saltwater intrusion, subsidence and flooding, she notes. “All of those [issues] can put the city at greater risk as sea levels begin to rise,” Dausman says. “[Residents] are not completely immune to the effects of sea level rise even though they’re not looking out their window at the ocean or the Gulf.” You can see the report here.
