Merritt Lane, Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Canal Barge Company, Inc., has been involved in inland waterway management in Louisiana and across the country for decades. Lane has served as Chairman of the Board of the American Waterways Operators and Waterways Council, Inc., and currently serves as a board member of the National Waterways Foundation, the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation, and the Blue Sky Maritime Coalition.

Lane also serves on the Board of Directors of Hancock Whitney Bank and Pontchartrain Materials Company. He is also active in leadership positions with numerous civic, educational, and philanthropic organizations in New Orleans, currently serving as Board Chair of the Bureau of Governmental Research; on the boards of The Nature Conservancy and Bricolage Academy; and on the Executive Committee of the Business Council of New Orleans & the River Region. In 2017, he was featured for his commitment to conservation in the book and documentary, “Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman: Conservation Heroes of the American Heartland."
