Shubhra Misra

Senior Research Scientist

Shubhra Misra is a Senior Research Scientist for the Water Institute. He has over 15 years of extensive and effective team-oriented leadership, coordination and management experience in the planning, execution, management and delivery of complex, large multi-disciplinary civil works (coastal and marine) projects.

Misra has extensive global experience in developing civil designs for hydrological, hydraulic engineering, and coastal engineering project aspects and reviewing plans, specifications, and drawings for features of design to ensure a fully coordinated and compatible design. His work has ranged from site-selection, design, constructability, construction and operation of coastal, marine and civil works infrastructure, navigation, flood risk management (including sea level rise and climate change), dredging and reclamation, cost and construction schedule estimating, numerical and physical modeling of coastal processes (waves, water levels, currents, sediments), vessel motions and wave-structure interactions, met-ocean studies, marine environmental and ecosystem impact assessments, contractor and business management.

Prior to joining the Institute, Misra worked at US. Army Corps of Engineers on the Department of Defense Climate Adaptation Plan and as hydrology-hydraulics-coastal lead on large-scale coastal storm risk management projects. Misra is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and an ACOPNE Delegate in Coastal Engineering and Port Engineering.

Misra received his bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture from India, and a Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from University of Delaware in the field of Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Coastal Engineering.
