The Water Institute works on an array of applied research and technical support projects, from large-scale plans and decision-support tools to targeted research and technical reviews. These include administering competitive grants programs, assembling outside expert panels, and conducting applied research relevant to water resource issues. By serving as a vehicle for collaboration among the premier coastal scientists and engineers around the world, The Water Institute drives innovation in water resource issues, building world-class expertise.

Our work not only informs federal and state efforts in Louisiana, it assists us in being a center of science and engineering excellence that serves communities across the country and around the world. We have active research projects in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, funded by the U.S. Office of Naval Research, and a new initiative in Latin America, supported by the USAID. Within the United States we have current work in coastal Louisiana, and our team has experience working on water resources issues in many systems including the Florida Everglades, Texas, the Arctic, the Great Lakes, and the North Atlantic coast.

Our work is unique because of the quality, dedication, and experience of our people, our desire to collaborate and share knowledge, and our two-tiered approach of integrating applied research and linking knowledge to action.
