Managing dynamic coastal systems is challenging, given the numerous uncertainties surrounding natural processes, species interactions, and climate change. Adaptive Management employs a scientific, systematic approach that embraces learning and knowledge-sharing to reduce these uncertainties and facilitate the development of informed management decisions. As management actions are implemented, knowledge is gained through monitoring, research, modeling, and synthesis. This project will develop an adaptive management framework for coastal Louisiana, identify performance measures that can be used to assess program performance and the overall health of the system, and consider the best approach to developing a report card to communicate the “state of the coast” to the public.
